Junior Sailing 8 – 16 years
Let your children discover the sport of sailing! Our courses are fun and action packed, learning a truly unique activity that requires participants to demonstrate technical skills and provides them with a physical challenge. You’ll be surprised how quickly your child will learn when under guidance from one of our qualified and highly experienced RYA Instructors learning in a structured RYA course. Sailing is fun, safe, breeds self-confidence and a positive outdoor pursuit.
RYA STAGE 1
The first step in learning to sail, this course is a fantastic introduction by discovering the basic boat controls and wind awareness while gaining confidence and having fun.
RYA STAGE 2
Students will learn more about the points of sailing, rigging, launching, tacking and gybing. When they can hike out and lean back, as the boat cuts through the water, they’ll really feel the adrenaline rush of sailing.
RYA STAGE 3
To develop single-handed sailing skills at a higher level, covering a variety of practical boat control skills such as the five essentials, man overboard and an introduction to racing.
RYA START RACING
Under the guidance of our RYA Racing Coaches, students will learn many aspects of sailboat racing to become confident when racing and able to compete at local and national regattas.
Intensive racing clinics structured with a diverse and ranging syllabus teaching the skills required for high level competition. The programme is taught by National Class Coaches, separated into two groups; Optimists and Lasers.
JUNIOR/YOUTH WEEKEND TRAINING
The RVYC provides FREE training for RVYC members available on most weekends. The sessions are split into three groups; Go Sailing, Optimist Racing and Laser Racing. More information can be found by visiting the RVYC Youth Team page here.
